Hi all, it's Amanda here, with Damien
having a rest in ICU I am able to leave the ward to do a few things, like sleep.... The little munchkin is currently
on the ventilator again but they are hoping to put him on CPAP tomorrow.
The doctors did a bronchogram today. This is where they put dye down his windpipe into the tubes going into his lungs to see
if they are working properly when he breathes. The doctors found that Damien's windpipe narrows near the bottom.
This is called tracheal stenosis. Also the tube going into his right lung is narrow aswell. This is because the
walls are soft. He doesn't have a problem when he breathes in but when he exhales he has trouble getting the air
out. This condtion is called Bronchomalacia. They are hoping that because Damien was able to breathe unassisted
before, the tubes will get stronger and they wont have to do any surgery. Lets hope they dont, he's been through enough
so far...
He's sedated again and they will start to bring him
round in the next day or two but apparently he has awake moments and isn't too happy when he is. I'm catching up on
as much sleep as I can because once he is up in the ward I'll probably be staying with him again. I must admit
I missed cuddling him last night. Overall he is stable and we now have to wait and see how he recovers from this latest
set back. We know it wont be long until he's back smiling and charming all the nurses......
...Mum...
